Peak City Gym is a family-owned training gym specializing in Fitness-Over-Forty. With a holistic and tailored approach to health and fitness, every member of the PCG Family receives an individualized plan designed to meet you where you are and bridge the gap to where you want to be.
Brendan transferred to East Carolina University (ECU) in the Spring of 2013 after a series of concussions ended his college lacrosse career. Aches and pains from his playing days coupled with weight gain from being sidelined, Brendan knew he needed a change. A few months after transferring to ECU, while enrolled in the Kinesiology program, Brendan earned his personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He then teamed up with his brother, Shane, to co-found Optimum Strength, LLC.
While studying at ECU and running Optimum Strength, Brendan completed an internship with Cardinal Gibbons Strength and Conditioning and became certified in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and as a Certified Speed and Agility Coach (CSAC). After roughly 3 years, Brendan and Shane decided to return to the triangle area with the hopes of eventually opening their own facility.
While establishing himself in a new area, Brendan worked with local youth and high school athletes at a performance training center and with adults at a corporate gym. In June 2019 Brendan began working on opening Peak City Gym full time and has been responsible for overseeing our training programs since opening in January of 2020. Brendan is very creative in his approach to programming and exercise selection and known to be a stickler for form. So you know you won’t get bored and you’ll always be in good hands!
When Brendan is away from the gym, you can typically find him spending time with his wife, Theona, and two dogs, Brady and Tucker. He also coaches youth and high school lacrosse, enjoys watching and playing most sports, and loves to hit the beach!
A non-traditional path to the fitness industry, Shane graduated in 2009 from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH with a BA in Philosophy. With the philosophy job market being shockingly dry at the time, Shane pursued an opportunity as the Residential Recreational Coordinator at the Benedictine School for Exceptional Children in Ridgely, Maryland. While working at the Benedictine School, Shane lost nearly 70 pounds with a reignited passion in fitness and nutrition.
In late 2010 Shane returned to North Carolina with the intentions of earning his Master’s in Social Work. While deferring his acceptance to programs awaiting in-state tuition, Shane worked as a case manager in Durham and began studying for his personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In 2011, Shane began training as a side job but it quickly turned into a driving passion leading him to change career paths entirely.
In Spring 2012, Shane enrolled at East Carolina University in prerequisite courses, soon earning acceptance to the Biomechanics program. The Biomechanics program afforded Shane the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of human movement and exercise physiology. Furthermore, he was able to apply what he was learning the classroom real-time with his personal training clients.
While in graduate school, Shane won a grant through The American Society of Biomechanics for his thesis research on the age-associated changes in gait, completed a semester-long internship with Youngs Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation in Greenville, NC and continued to add to his repertoire of certifications including Certified Functional Strength Coach and Precision Nutrition. Additonally, Shane and his brother, Brendan, founded Optimum Strength, LLC, a personal training company in Greenville, NC. After 3 years running Optimum Strength, training men and women from various backgrounds, skill, and fitness levels, Shane and his brother made another tough decision — to say goodbye to their clients and friends and move back to the Triangle area.
After a couple of years back in the area, working at a local corporate gym, Shane is excited to embark on this new venture with his family and Peak City Gym, here in Apex! When he’s not in the gym, Shane enjoys spending time with his fiancée, Ashley, and kids Khloe and Jayse. He also enjoys cooking, hanging out by the pool with his dog, Riley, and helping coach lacrosse.

Our two flagship semi-private classes, “Ageless Athlete” and “Power Hour” are offered Monday through Saturday.
Specialty classes such as our Outdoor Bootcamp, Foundations Workshops, and others are offered regularly throughout the week and month.
Whether you prefer to always workout alone or are supplementing the semi-private and small group classes on your “off days,” we have you covered! Reserve a “pod” – complete with your own squat rack and space with absolute minimal sharing of equipment. Complete your own workout or use one of ours! A coach is always nearby if you need a spot or advice!

George Xouris2022-08-11 I was reluctant to check out this gym when my wife suggested it because I had never had a good experience with gyms before. I've been on the workout roller coaster for most of my adult life....into it for a few weeks maybe a month, then falling off the wagon for a few months (or even years). I was never able to sustain the motivation because I never enjoyed it. Well, all that changed when I joined Peak City Gym. I've been going for 13 months STRAIGHT (I think my personal record was 3 consecutive months) and have never felt better in my life. I'm in the best shape of my life, I'm stronger than I've ever been, and I have so much more stamina than I've ever had before. This has helped me mentally as well as physically, and has made everyday activities that I don't normally think about, much easier, like playing with my dogs, lifting heavy things, carrying boxes up flights of stairs, etc. Shane and Brendan are both awesome trainers. They really know their stuff! Their knowledge of exercise physiology is so impressive. As if that wasn't enough, they're very friendly and fun to be with. They also keep their gym sparkling clean, wiping down every piece of equipment after it's used. When I first went I could barely move around and I had some back issues. With the help of the trainers they have shown me ways to do a work out so that it doesn’t affect my back. I’ve been to many other gyms in my lifetime and I have never progressed as I have going to this gym. As I've gotten a little older, and my sports-related injuries have gotten more noticeable, I felt completely incapable of figuring out what to do that didn't hurt. I was never super-knowledgeable about what to do or how often to do it and the worse I felt, the less I felt capable of doing. After almost 7 weeks with Brendan and Shane, I'm experiencing less pain day-to-day while regaining a tremendous amount of lost flexibility from years of desk-sitting. I'm also having a blast. The small group settings allow me to get personal instruction as needed, while sharing the space with a few new friends. My confidence has increased tremendously and I look forward to my morning wake-up routine. I'm always greeted by name, when I walk in the door and I feel like I've joined a family instead of a gym. 10/10 would recommend.
